This painting was creating when Vincent Farrell was completing his A.A. in fine art at Orange Coast Community College. Depicted are his mother's tea cups, a candle stick, beer stein on a white table cloth. The painting is signed "David Forbes '64" . David was the artist birth name and '64 was the year the painting was created. This is one of two paintings signed with the artist birth name and he later went on to use his professional name , Vincent Farrell.
This scene is taken from a very humble doctor's office waiting room in Mazatlan, Mexico in 1969. It was a difficult period for the artist, with little money, the onset of illness and far from home, while waiting for the doctor he began sketching the waiting room. The small picture hanging on the wall over the empty chair is of the Madonna and the baby Jesus, illuminated by the light of the open window, the sun's rays conquer the darkness of Vincent's surroundings, as if to say everything will be transformed and there is hope.
